NCIS - CBS VIDEO: 'SHABBAT SHALOM' SNEAK PEEK # 2 - AIRS TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2013 AT 8/7C

Ziva questions the purpose of her father's secret visit to D.C. and Gibbs and Vance have reason to question his timing, on NCIS, Tuesday, Jan. 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

While the NCIS team investigates the link to a dead journalist and a Navy petty officer, Ziva (Cote de Pablo) is taken aback by the sudden emotional visit by her father (Michael Nouri), who she hasn't seen in more than two years. While Ziva questions the purpose of her father’s visit as the Director of Mossad, her father insists he is in the U.S. strictly to see his daughter for Shabbat dinner.

Michael Nouri reprises his role as Ziva's father, Mossad Director Eli David.

Additional guest stars include Paula Newsome, Nasser Faris, Scott MacArthur, Cameron Watson, Joe Martin Thomas, Mateus Ward, Ryan Locke, Bryan Lugo, Russell Pitts, Brent Chase and Jack Axelrod.

'Shabbat Shalom' was written by Christopher J. Waild and directed by Dennis Smith.

DAILY RECORD: Scots star David McCallum loves part in NCIS so much that he studies pathology in his spare time

GLASGOW-born McCallum is looking forward to celebrating his tenth year in the hit drama.

By Brian McIver
January 8, 2013

AS super-suave agent Illya Kuryakin in The Man from UNCLE, David McCallum was one of the icons of the swinging Sixties.

Robert Vaughn and David McCallum from The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Almost 50 years later, the Scots actor has found himself back at the top of the telly charts with one of the most successful programmes of the last decade.

But his part could hardly be more different from the role of Kuryakin.

Now 78, Glasgow-born McCallum is about to celebrate 10 years in the smash-hit procedural drama NCIS, in which he plays medical examiner Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard.

He says the part of the bookish old coroner alongside Mark Harmon has been one of the best he has enjoyed since he got his first Equity card back in 1946.

And the New York-based star has fallen in love with the part so much that for the last 10 years, he has been studying pathology in his spare time.

McCallum explained: “Very early in my career, I realised there would be many days when I wouldn’t be working so I should find something to do, such as woodwork, painting, trying to play golf, or learning languages.

For the last 10 years, I’ve been studying pathology. I’ve got about six feet of books on death on shelves in my house, going back to the earliest Chinese studies on autopsies.

Mark Harmon is always telling me I am obsessed and I guess I am to a certain extent.

I’ve been down to the Medical Examiner’s office in Los Angeles with coroner Craig Harvey and I’ve managed to not just watch autopsies through the glass, but actually stand in with him while he is doing one..."

NCIS season ten airs Tuesday at 8/7C on CBS.

TV GUIDE: Tuesday Playlist: The Return of Justified and Cougar Town, Jimmy Kimmel's Move, More

Jan 8, 2013
by Matt Roush

A week's worth of notable TV has been crammed into one very busy night. Let's take it from the top.

Which means, for me, the return of FX's most satisfying drama, Justified (10/9c), for a fourth season of wryly amusing but often shockingly brutal backwoods mayhem. Too cool to trumpet its greatness, this low-key winner, which channels the style and wit of the great Elmore Leonard, quickly reminds us what a bad idea it is to taunt U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) with "Mine's bigger than yours." (They're talking guns, and Raylan is in no mood to mess around, given that his moonlighting gig to snare a reward from a bounty hunter is strictly forbidden by the home office.)

"Your days are more interesting than most," Raylan's bartending squeeze tells him toward the end of next week's episode. And so far, that's true enough, as our hero puzzles the significance of a long-buried secret that implicates his jailbird dad Arlo (Raymond J. Barry), who not so long ago shot a trooper he thought was his own son. (Said secret seems to have something to do with the hapless skydiver who went splat on a suburban street 30 years ago, the season's opening scene.) Meanwhile, a newly arrived snake-handling revival preacher (Joe Mazzello, once upon a time the kid from Jurassic Park, who matriculated through HBO's The Pacific) is rattling Harlan County's criminal underworld, most notably Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), who's none too pleased to be told, "People gettin' off drugs, gettin' hooked on Jesus." I have faith this intrigue is heading somewhere good...

TOP PICK

Justified

(FX, 10 p.m.)

TV’s most crowded night is about to get more most crowded (most crowded-er?): Tuesdays in the fall were defined by the three-way DVR scrum between New Girl, Happy Endings, and Go On (and, sure, The Voice stealing viewers from every other show); add to that the night’s new tough choice between Harlan County and the cul-de-sac. Justified returns, introducing some new backwoods mystery and Constable Patton Oswalt.

... JUSTIFIED

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: One of my favorite series of 2012 returns for a new season in 2013, kicking off with a twisted mystery (a 40-year-old satchel, found hidden behind some drywall) and the latest in a long series of inspired casting choices. This time it’s Patton Oswalt, who plays a small-town lawman to whom Raylan (the outstanding Timothy Olyphant) goes for unexpected, unorthodox assistance. Denver Post TV critic Joanne Ostrow describes Oswalt’s character perfectly, and hilariously, as “a cross between Barney Fife and Barney Rubble.” Yabba dabba do watch this episode, and this series. Justified is a true treat.
