SCIFI VISION: Rose, Balfour, & Copeland on the "Haven" Season Finale

By Jamie Ruby
Thursday, 03 January 2013

Quite a bit has been happening on this season of Haven – fans have learned more about Audrey, her "past lives," and what happens when she disappears, the identity of the Colorado Kid, about the secretive Guard, and much more. This season has also had the arc of the bolt gun killer aka skin walker. Shippers also got a surprise treat when Duke and Audrey finally kissed. It's definitely been a busy season, and the season finale promises to wrap up some issues at least.

Fans have had to wait for the last two episodes of the Syfy series, after the tragic shooting in Newtown (because of the subject matter of the next to last episode, the show was postponed), but will finally get to see the last two episodes airing back to back on Thursday January 17th. Haven has also been renewed for season four.

In preparation of the finale, Emily Rose, Eric Balfour, and Adam "Edge" Copeland recently talked to the media about what fans can expect...

Haven's Eric Balfour, Lucas Bryant and Emily Rose

... QUESTION: I was wondering, is there anything else that you can tell us? Any hints or anything about [the] show's ... season finale?

ADAM COPELAND: "Without giving away anything, and Emily already kind of touched upon, there's one really amazing scene for me as a character in the show and then also, just for me, Adam, sitting there watching this and seeing all of my friends, there's one moment where you see everyone and all on one spot.

And it's very, very cool to see that because, well, for me personally, as the character who fights, interactive one-on-one or in groups of twos or threes but never all of that. So it was just seeing the scope of kind of the landscape that they painted, along with the landscape of the scene, the physical attributes of the scene, it's pretty epic, is the right word.
"

ERIC BALFOUR: "You know what? I'm feeling charitable."

EMILY ROSE: "Wow!"

ERIC BALFOUR: "I'm just going to reveal a huge secret. I'm just going to do it and see if I get in trouble."

EMILY ROSE: "Oh, my God."

ERIC BALFOUR: "Yes. So I'm going to go for it. So in the season finale..."

QUESTION: Yes?

ERIC BALFOUR: 'Duke, Audrey, Lucas and Dwight..."

EMILY ROSE: "Nathan, you mean? Nathan and Dwight?"

ERIC BALFOUR: "All right, Audrey, Duke, Nathan, Dwight and Vince and Dave all have an orgy..."

BLOG CRITICS: Interview: Once Upon a Time Creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis

by Barbara Barnett
Jan 03, 2013

[NOTE: Audio version of this interview will be available on Monday, January 7 at Let's Talk TV]

Once Upon a Time returns Sunday night with new episodes, beginning with “The Cricket Game.” With Cora (Barbara Hershey) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) in Storybrooke, the episode focuses on Regina (Lana Parrilla) who is trying to live without magic, to please Henry (Jared S. Gilmore). But how will that play out as she tries to deal with her mother? “I think,” says Once Upon a Time executive producer Adam Horowitz, “this episode is going to test [Regina] in many ways.” I caught up with Horowitz and his Once Upon a Time co-creator Edward Kitsis by phone to talk about their hit ABC series and what’s in store during the weeks ahead...

... For many fans, last season’s “Skin Deep” episode was the highlight of season one. The episode retold the classic story of Beauty and the Beast, casting Rumplestiltskin as the Beast and bringing to the series, Lost’s Emilie de Ravin as Belle. The story was so well received that Emilie was made a series regular for this season with the hope of further exploring Belle and her relationship with Rumple. “RumBelle” was born.

Although there hasn’t thus far been a lot of RumBelle in season two (although there have been some beautiful moments between the two characters), Kitsis and Horowitz revealed that much more is coming, so fans of that “ship” should be patient and let the story unfolds.

We look at each season like a book,Horowitz explained.

And so in the first nine episodes Rumpel definitely changed, but he had other things going on, such as his son, and Belle was just getting introduced to town. We want to really get into these stories and be able to really explore them and not just check them off a list,Kitsis added.

I think we are going to get a lot of RumBelle. So I would say if you’re a RumBelle fan, keep watching because you’re going to get a lot of it.” In fact, Kitsis teased, “In episode 11 we are going to find out much more about Belle. So if the RumBelle fans want to know when are we going to see more of that relationship, episode 11 is RumBelle to the max!

TORONTO SUN: Anna Silk's Bo shows her dark side in Season 3 of Lost Girl

By Bill Harris
January 03, 2013

Anna Silk's character in Lost Girl can feel the dark growing within her.

Seriously, isn't there some sort of supernaturally powerful Fae antibiotics that could clear that up in a jiffy?

"You would think by now they would have something, but no," Silk says...

Bo is a Succubus who, after her true identity became known to her, found herself caught between the Light Fae and Dark Fae clans. But in season three, the greatest enemy Bo faces might be the one that resides inside her.

"In broad strokes, this season for Bo is about discovery," Silk says. "She really learns, and has to learn, that being Fae is a lot more complicated than choosing Light or Dark.

"She has probably the biggest challenge that she ever has faced, physically, mentally, emotionally. And she really has to come to grips with who she is."

So in other words, the Fae world is not as simple as black or white.

"Exactly, there's more than 50 shades of grey," Silk says.

Wow, good line. Nicely done, Anna.

"I've never actually read the book, but thank you," Silk says with a laugh...

Once Upon A Time 3

ACCESS HOLLYWOOD: Colin O’Donoghue, Robert Carlyle & Lana Parrilla Talk Big Face Offs Coming To Once Upon A Time

January 4, 2013
by Jolie Lash

Once Upon A Time” returns with a big splash in 2013, as Regina’s mother Cora and Rumplestiltskin’s nemesis Captain Hook finally sail into Storybrooke, with vengeance in their hearts.

His overriding motivation is to get revenge on Rumplestiltskin. That’s what he wants first and foremost,” Colin O’Donoghue, who plays the handsome Hook, said after ABC flew us up to speak to the cast in Vancouver Canada in late 2012. “The thing about it is, Cora will have her own agenda and he has his own agenda and it’s about whether or not they mix and who has more say in the matter as to what happens first.”

... And while not yet aware as the episode opens about the presence of Hook and Cora in town, Robert [Carlyle], who plays Rumple, said they two characters will be his main foes.

Aye. They’re definitely a nemesis for him now,” the Scotsman said on the Vancouver set, dressed in his Mr. Gold finest. “There’s no doubt about that. I think that certainly the appearance of Hook again is a big, big deal, a huge deal.”

Also worth keeping an eye on with her magical mother in town, will be Regina, who has set aside her use of magic once again, in an attempt to keep her adopted son, Henry, placated.

After all these years, she’s genuinely trying to be a good person, after losing Henry,” actress Lana Parrilla said, referring to how Regina’s son is spending time with his birth mother again – Emma Swan. “I think she’s really trying to redeem herself, not use magic, not hurt anyone...”

8DIO: Interview with Richard Marvin

by Jan Hoeglund and Troels Folmann
December 2012

Richard Marvin is a American film and television composer whose line of work includes hit shows like Grimm (NBC), Six Feet Under (HBO), In Treatment (HBO), The O.C (FOX) and movies like The Surrogates, u571 and over 40 other TV-shows, movies etc...

... Q: What’s it like working on popular TV shows like Grimm or The O.C. or Six Feet Under? And where are deadlines worse, Film or TV?

Richard Marvin: "For sure, the TV schedules are much shorter. On Grimm, I compose about 35 minutes of score every week. There was much less music in The OC and Without A Trace, but still it was an episode a week. Six Feet Under and In Treatment were much more relaxed in terms of the schedule. Usually I would have at least two weeks to score an episode, and there was very little music per episode. The real test is when a composer is juggling multiple TV shows and films at the same time... That’s when it gets a little crazy. When scoring a film, it really depends on the particular film in terms of how long you have to complete the score. Generally though, I’ve had one to six months to score a film.

Q: What changes do you foresee in the world of Movie/TV/Game Music within the next 10 years? Where are we going stylistically?

Richard Marvin: "Mmmmm, crystal ball time… I think the art of scoring is currently in a very stagnant time. There aren’t many scores that stand out to me as fresh or creative. I think mostly that’s because of producers, directors and studios all wanting music that is like the “last hit.” The temping and research screening process already is so confining to a composer. That’s what I’m really enjoying about Grimm. The powers that be are letting me in large part write what I think is best for the show. There is very little direction coming from the producers or the studio. It’s sort of what scoring used to be like in the early days of scoring: let the composer write the music that he/she thinks will enhance the story..."

HAVEN - STARRY CONSTELLATION MAGAZINE: EMILY ROSE, ERIC BALFOUR AND ADAM COPELAND INTERVIEW

by: Jamie Steinberg

... Q) Your characters have gone through some amazing twists and turns this season and I wanted to find out what maybe have been some of the biggest acting challenges for each of you this season in playing your respective roles?

Adam Copeland: "My answer is probably broader because the whole acting process to me is still very new to me. So the whole process is a challenge for me at this point because I'm really learning. And one of the things that I really wanted to try to do is just come in with my eyes wide open, my ears wide open and just listen and watch. And that was really all I've been trying to do. This year I'm actually taking steps to try and get better at this because it's been a lot of fun and kind of cathartic and creative process that I still need. And it's still that, so that's really nice. For me, the biggest challenge is just trying to get somewhat passable at the whole acting thing."

Eric Balfour: "I just want to add that I've been really impressed by the leaps and bounds that Adam has made as an actor. I really am proud of you. I'll say this on the record. I remember when he did his first episode in Season 2. And I can be honest about this now, because I think he knows I love him, he was so stiff. I honestly was like, ‘Is this dude going to make it through this? I'm worried about him.' And it was so fun to watch him blossom because he really did. I'm so proud of him that he's found a comfort level and a groove. I mean, obviously, you don't get to where he is gotten to in his life without being talented and charismatic. But nonetheless, it's like being a great athlete in one arena. That doesn't mean that it immediately translates to some other sport. But the fact that he is this great, allowed him to. And then he's just getting better and better and better. And now it's so much fun to watch what he does now because he actually goes beyond what's on the page now and brings something to it and makes it interesting. So it's really fun. That being said, the most difficult challenge for me this season was having to do scenes with Adam Copeland and pretend like I didn't like him because I just want to eat him up, you know? I just want to mush him into a little ball and shove him in my mouth and suck on him."

Emily Rose: "Wow. I think bringing it back around, like I do, I feel like this answer is sort of an obvious one: I think it was just creating people other than Audrey. It was really exciting for me to be able to do that. Sarah was a really fun character to create and it was a scary challenge because I didn't know if I'd be happy with the end result. But to be honest with you, an even harder person to create, which I'm still trying to figure out, even though she didn't have as much time as Sarah did, was Lucy because Lucy was somebody that we had met in a season prior. And she's been a visual but we never really talked to her or heard her voice, other than meeting the actual Lucy in Season 2. Sometimes when I audition or put myself on tape for stuff when I'm out in Nova Scotia, a lot of times my agents will say, or I'll get feedback like, ‘Oh, well, they really like you. It just came off a little bit too tough.' And all of that I attribute to playing Audrey for five months or whatever. So to snap out of her for a few scenes a day, to snap out of who Audrey is and to have the softness or curiosity or to still maintain those common threads of character traits of these women but to create different people is tricky. And it's a challenge that I enjoy, but it's still tricky..."

THE TV ADDICT: We Shine the Spotlight on THE BIG BANG THEORY Star Kunal Nayyar

By Tiffany Vogt
January 3rd, 2013

Given the stratospheric rise of CBS’ comedy series THE BIG BANG THEORY, it is no wonder the co-star KUNAL Nayyar feels a bit struck by lightening. Life is good when you are king and working on a hit TV series like BIG BANG THEORY is enough to make any actor feel blessed and grateful that television audiences have embraced it so warmly. In a recent press interview at the WB Mondo International Press Tour, Kunal candidly shared what life is like for him and what he thinks of the show’s hot success...

... Q: What are the surprises of the season for you this year?

Kunal Nayyar: "Well, in terms of the show, it’s just amazing that in our sixth season, the numbers that we’re getting. Every year, it’s growing. It’s surprising to me now. At first, I was like, “Okay, this is really cool, this is really cool.” Now it’s actually shocking. When we get 17 1/2 million viewers, that’s shocking to me. And for the story, I think nothing has really surprised me this year. It’s just been more of what we do, which is every character is always fighting their own battles. Like Wolowitz is adjusting to married life, and Leonard and Penny are always going to through their relationships, and Amy’s trying to sleep with Sheldon, and Raj is trying to find love."

Q: Do you think Raj will find love this season?

Kunal Nayyar: "I don’t know where Raj is going to find love. Chuck Lorre said this is the year that Raj is going to find love. And then he said, “I’m really excited to see it.” So I don’t know if it’s going to be a person. Who knows. We’ll see..."

YAHOO! TV: TV on DVD: 'Justified' star Walton Goggins talks new season, 'Lincoln,' 'Django Unchained,' and being a lady on 'Sons of Anarchy'

By Kimberly Potts
Fri, Jan 4, 2013

Few actors had a better 2012 than "Justified" star Walton Goggins: he provided some much-needed comic relief in a very tense season of "Sons of Anarchy" with his memorable guest appearance as transgendered escort Venus Van Dam, and he had the unique experience of delving into both sides of the slavery issue with his performances in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" and Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" on the big screen.

And, of course, he shined in the third season of FX's fantastic Elmore Leonard-inspired drama, which hits DVD this week just ahead of the show's fourth-season premiere on Jan. 8 at 10 PM. One of the highlights of "Justified: The Complete Third Season" on Blu-ray (Sony), in fact, is a nearly half-hour-long conversation between "Justified" Emmy nominees Goggins and Timothy Olyphant about their experience making the stylish, meticulously crafted western drama...

... In [Justified's] Season 4, Boyd is busily continuing to grow his Harlan County crime empire when he's confronted with a new challenger, a preacher named Billy (guest star Joe Mazzello), who tries to convince the local citizenry (i.e., Boyd's clientele) that they don't need to imbibe Mr. Crowder's recreational substances.

Goggins chatted with Yahoo! TV about the crisis that kicks off for Boyd, about the bigger plan that the ever-clever Mr. Crowder might have in mind throughout Season 4, about how he sparked the idea for that "SOA" role, and about how meaningful it was to help play out a pivotal piece of our country's history in back-to-back dream roles on the big screen...

walton_goggins_as_boydcrowder

... Q: Our boy Boyd Crowder is in a very different place when the new season opens. How thrown is he by the appearance of this new preacher?

Walton Goggins: "I think Boyd is, for the first time, in charge, really in charge of something -- of an enterprise, so to speak, a criminal kind of entity. That is, the criminal empire that he runs in Harlan County. There's no one else really challenging him there. With that comes a lot of fiduciary responsibilities. Once you've made it, once you have something to lose, then you need to defend your territory. That's all new to Boyd. Between that, between his relationship with Ava, between the opportunities that are going to present themselves by working with the people up in Lexington and in Detroit, he is, in some ways, stepping way out of his league. That will continue as the season continues.

One part of that is greed. But what (showrunner) Graham (Yost) does and what Elmore Leonard does and what our writers try to do, when they are emulating Elmore, is give (Boyd) a reason for doing the things that he's doing. That's something that is the most important thing to me. Hopefully, what you'll see is that these steps, stepping out of one's comfort zone, are in the service of something greater. Boyd really has an endgame. He's working hard to that end. You won't really know what that endgame is until the season progresses. He sees this as a real opportunity to make some changes in his life that will affect him for the rest of his life and the people around him. We'll see whether or not he makes it...
" (Laughing)
