PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD - NBCUMB: PREMIERES ON SYFY IN 2013

SYFY ACQUIRES PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD FROM ENTERTAINMENT ONE

SPIN-OFF OF HIT SERIES SLATED TO PREMIERE IN 2013

Syfy has acquired Primeval: New World, the next generation of the hit Primeval, from Entertainment One.

Scheduled to premiere on the Channel in 2013, Primeval: New World joins Syfy's growing roster of popular original acquisitions including Lost GirL, Merlin and the upcoming Sinbad.

The 13-episode series will star Niall Matter (Eureka) Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Danny Rahim (Young James Herriot) as a team of animal experts and scientists investigating paranormal events, while battling both prehistoric and futuristic creatures.

Amanda Tapping, who starred in the Syfy series Sanctuary, is on board to direct several episodes.

Said Chris Regina, Senior Vice President, Programming, Syfy: “This fast-paced entertaining and smart series will delight fans of the original program as well as introduce new viewers to this fascinating world.”

We’re thrilled to be continuing our relationship with Syfy in securing another action drama with the network,” said Jon Ferro, Senior Vice President, Program Sales, eOne. “Primeval: New World has a great cast, solid story-telling and state of the art special effects - all the right elements to make it a success that fits right in with Syfy’s stellar line up.”

Based on the original series from Impossible Pictures, Primeval: New World’s creative team is led by Executive Producers Martin Wood (Sanctuary, Stargate: Atlantis) and Gillian Horvath (Sanctuary, Highlander). The spin-off was created by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens (Star Trek: Enterprise, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World) and will be written by Gillian Horvath, Peter Hume (Charmed, Flash Gordon), Jon Cooksey (The Collector, The Outer Limits), Sarah Dodd (Flashpoint, Arctic Air), Katherine Collins (Endgame), and Judith and Garfield Reeve-Stevens.

Primeval New World

PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD follows the story of a North American team that discovers dinosaurs and other dangerous predators emerging onto the streets of modern-day Vancouver through anomalies in time. EVAN CROSS (Niall Matter), visionary inventor, heads up the team - predator control expert DYLAN WEIR (Sara Canning), security specialist MAC RENDELL (Danny Rahim), and physics prodigy TOBY NANCE (Crystal Lowe). ANGE FINCH (Miranda Frigon), Evan's oldest friend and business partner, keeps Cross Photonics afloat while Evan and his Special Projects Group track escapee dinosaurs, with the overeager help of LIEUTENANT KEN LEEDS (Geoff Gustafson), head of the government’s decommissioned department for investigating alien life and other mysteries - including Anomalies. Throughout Season 1, the characters quickly gain expertise in the prehistoric creatures they hunt, the weapons they need to handle them, and the nature of the Anomalies themselves. They face danger side by side, and come to rely on each other for not only survival, but comfort and intimacy as well.

SFX MAGAZINE: Haven Season Three: Exclusive Emily Rose Interview

by Jordan Farley
October 3 2012

Emily Rose is no stranger to science fiction having popped up briefly in Jericho and starred as Elena Fisher in the stellar Uncharted trilogy; but it wasn’t until Syfy’s Stephen King adaptation Haven that she became much more than someone who happened to share a name with that exorcism movie. Rose returned to UK screens last night for the season three premiere of Haven, which continues every Tuesday at 9pm, only on Syfy UK...

... SFX: What lessons did you learn from previous years going into the third season of Haven?

Emily Rose: “The ability to mesh the trouble of the week with the mythology of what’s going on. We are a show that, by nature, exists to try to satisfy people’s weekly desires for a case to wrap up at the end of each episode. But today’s viewer, which I am definitely one of, is more and more interested in the long-term mythology, and that being a rewarding and long-term mystery. The thing that this season does really, really well is it gives time for the trouble of the week but it focuses on the mythology of the characters and the town, and it has something really new this season which I’m excited about, another long term mystery on top of the mythology of the town. There’s a long term crime that has to be solved that’s getting tied into the troubles, so there’s a lot going on...

COLLIDER: Showrunner Jeremy Carver Talks What to Expect in SUPERNATURAL Season 8, Flashbacks, Special Episodes, Recurring Characters, and More

by Christina Radish
October 3rd, 2012

The CW drama series Supernatural has returned for an eighth season, with Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) seemingly impossible escape from Purgatory and Castiel (Misha Collins) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) finds himself trying to reconcile the life he discovered while Dean was gone with Dean’s sudden reappearance and, as the boys struggle with their unexpected reunion, they make a shocking discovery that will definitely shake things up.

During this recent interview to promote the show’s return, showrunner/executive producer Jeremy Carver talked about the decision to reveal that Sam had not looked for Dean while he was in Purgatory, how much Dean will be dealing with post-traumatic stress from what he went through, the use of flashbacks this season, which characters will be recurring, and the special episodes they have planned...

... Collider: How much will Benny (Ty Olsson) play into the present-day storyline, as opposed to just the flashbacks?

Jeremy Carver: "You’ll see Benny playing a pretty important role, both in his physical presence and psychological presence. The idea of Benny hangs over our brothers, pretty heavily, certainly as the year goes along. He’s a guy who has a tremendous bearing, and he’s really working out wonderfully. It’s a really complex character, and adds a really interesting wrinkle into the brothers’ relationship this year while they deal with something like this..."

(The CW, 9 p.m.)

While the rest of America is watching two men argue over the future of this great nation, Phil Dyess-Nugent invites you to watch two men fight monsters. Now, we could make some sort of super-obvious joke about the intersection in the Venn diagram between “monsters” and “politics,” but none are occurring to us, so Phil and all of us here as What’s On Tonight invite you to make a “presidential debate”/Supernatural crossover joke, preferably involving the word “Nosferatu” in some form or another. Though making that a requirement is really unfair without John McCain involved in this somehow.

9-10 PM THE CW, SEASON PREMIERE

The CW's spooky stalwart begins season 8 somewhat anticlimactically: A year has passed since last season's literally explosive finale, and brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are reunited with little fanfare. So what happened in the interim that banished Dean to purgatory and left Sam hanging up his demon-hunting spurs? The intervening 365 days will unfold, Lost-style, via flashbacks throughout the season. That robs the opening hour of some drama, though it does allow for the Winchesters to get back to searching for their prophet pal Kevin. And for those of you who just tune in for the gruesome body count, there's also a glorious series of vampire beheadings, so consider your monstrous bloodlust satisfied.
