DAILY DRAGON ONLINE: Writers and Warehouse Agents

By Maggie Caracappa
September 3, 2012

The “Creating Warehouse 13 and the Agents” panel on Saturday in the Marriott was a pleasure as creator/writer Jane Espenson and writer Deric Hughes joined agents Eddie McClintock, Saul Rubinek, and Aaron Ashmore onstage...

... Espenson noted that her first incarnations of Warehouse 13 were very different. Originally, the warehouse was going to be a building full of boxes, and each week, the agents would unpack a new box and have to figure out what it was and what it did. Rubinek also said that when he originally auditioned for Artie, the character was very different and that Artie’s balance of love and hate for the warehouse was missing. In fact, Rubinek improvised 10%-20% of his audition because he simply wasn’t there on the page yet...

DAILY DRAGON ONLINE: Super Supergate

By Maggie Caracappa
September 3, 2012

The last Supergate panel of Dragon*Con was packed with stars from Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis. Jason Momoa, Torri Higginson, Robert Picardo, and Cliff Simon started the panel, but a ripple of confusion went through the capacity crowd when Joe Flanigan and Richard Dean Anderson were conspicuously absent. It wasn’t a long wait, though, before Flanigan and finally Anderson joined the panel, both to cheers and applause...

stargate_atlantis_2A

... One question for the entire panel was whether they had any idea what they were getting into when they joined the cast and if they were at all prepared for the fans and the conventions. Flanigan said that he screened Galaxy Quest for the cast and at the end Higginson wasn’t sure if she should laugh or cry. Momoa said he did his San Diego Comic Con panel before his episodes even started to air and it was one of the scariest things he’d ever done. Higginson agreed, saying that she thought only a few people would show up since at the time of her first panel, the show hadn’t aired at all yet. Instead, it seemed like enough people to fill a football field had turned out. “It was terrifying and wonderful,” she said...

DAILY DRAGON ONLINE: Eureka! What a Panel

By Desiree Jackson
September 3, 2012

Colin Ferguson, Jamie Paglia, Niall Matter, Tembi Locke, and Debra Farentino took the stage Sunday for the “Eureka: What Would Carter Do?” panel in the Hyatt’s Centennial II-III ballrooms. There was much joking and bantering between the panelists and it was evident to everyone watching that these are people are used to spending large amounts of time around each other and know each other quite well...

.. This cast and crew, despite their show being cancelled and not currently in production, obviously still spend time together and care about each other, which is a wonderful thing to see in today’s genre television. There is such an obvious amount of talent and intelligence in this cast and in the creator that bleeds through on screen, and it is truly a shame that this show is no longer has new episodes. Nevertheless, the actors still love and come out to see and answer questions for their fans.

SCIFI AND TV TALK: Doctor Who's Karen Gillan Talks Season Seven

by Steve Eramo
09/02/2012

It is Karen Gillan’s last season as Amy Pond. Having travelled through space and time for three years, she is about to hang up her TARDIS key. Here, in the third of four BBC America press interviews, she gives us a glimpse at what is to come in episodes 1 to 3 from Daleks to Dinosaurs and some thoughts on her departure.

"It was AMAZING!" says Gillan. "We have totally made them scary again. I expect everyone to be watching from behind their sofas. I know I will…

"This season has been done in a really interesting way with five standalone epic episodes, like a movie a week, all building to the departure of Amy and Rory (Arthur Darvill)! We actually kick-off the season with Amy and Rory’s relationship in a sticky situation; it is less than marital bliss. Those scenes were really interesting to do", she explains, "because they created such a different on-screen atmosphere between Amy and Rory, something that the viewers wouldn’t have seen before. That is the good thing about Doctor Who, it gives you the chance to shift the character, and you never know what is going to happen from episode to episode..."

ON LOCATION

While the majority of the filming was done in the home of Doctor Who, Cardiff, Wales, the cast and crew found themselves in the perfect spaghetti western location of Almeria, Spain, giving Toby Whithouse’s episode 3, A Town Called Mercy, a truly authentic western feel... [NOTE: Farscape/Stargate SG-1's Ben Browder guest stars.]

"So much fun," claims Karen, "using a location that had actually been the set for other westerns made everything feel so much, well, authentic." In the episode, Amy Pond gets her hand on a gun, something Karen agrees that she really shouldn’t be let anywhere near. "Definitely, Amy Pond should be nowhere near a gun," says Karen. "I remember for a previous episode I had to fire a gun with blanks, followed quickly by Rory shouting, 'ARGHHH,' as though I had hit him. I completely forgot this when action was called, so when I fired and he shouted I really thought I had shot him! It was awful! In this episode when she gets hold of a gun you can see the fear on the faces of the other characters, but they weren’t acting, I genuinely think all of the actors including Matt and Arthur were in fear for their lives!"

Doctor Who season seven airs Saturday at 9/8C on BBC America.

GRIMM - STARRY CONSTELLATION MAGAZINE: RUSSELL HORNSBY INTERVIEW

by: Lisa Steinberg

... Q: You have such an amazing cast. How do you guys keep up the chemistry? Are you getting together for cast dinners outside of work or are you heading to the movies together?

Russell Hornsby: "I think we do, and I think we do it at our own pace and at our own time. I think the beautiful thing is that we all respect each other. I think we all genuinely like each other. We appreciate each other’s work and each other’s humanity, but at the same time we know when it’s time to work and I think we know when it’s time to take our space as individuals, and to allow someone their space, as individual. You don’t want to infringe on someone’s freedom, not just only freedom, but their freedom as a person and what sort of little small things that make them who they are. We all have our own personalities and things that we like to do when we’re by ourselves and things like that, so when you allow that to happen, you make way for an organic coming together, and there’s a lot of respect. It helps to keep the chemistry."

russell_thornsby1

Q: Season two is just beginning. Is there anything that you can tease that we can come to find out about your character, Hank, this season?

Russell Hornsby: "Honestly, there will be a lot of ebbs and flows and a lot of peaks and valleys for my character. It’s just one of those things where the audience is just going to have to tune in and find out and sort of take the ride, take the journey..."

TV GUIDE: Grimm's Bree Turner: Date with Monroe Brings Out Rosalee's "Wild Side"

Sep 2, 2012
by Hanh Nguyen

It's not "Muskrat Love," but Grimm is staging a romance between two of its muzzled creatures.

On Monday's episode (10/9c, NBC), Wesen pals Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) will finally take their mutual admiration and gentle flirting to the next level for a romantic picnic.

"Monroe finally asks her out on a date, and it's all very, very sweet," Turner tells TVGuide.com. "She feels a little shy about it and is a little overwhelmed with how amazing Monroe is and how romantic he is..."

rosalee_breeturner1

... Turner was only a recurring guest star during Grimm's first season, but became a series regular for its sophomore outing. "Fans could have rejected the idea of Monroe involving himself or having another player in the game," she says. "But a lot of people love the developing relationship between Monroe and Rosalee — or MonRosalee as I've coined it. But they're also responding to Rosalee and her intellect, energy and background."

Not only have the fans warmed up to her, but Turner has been embraced by the cast as well. In particular, she and Mitchell have an off-screen friendship ... and competitive rivalry. "He is Monroe. He's that intelligent, that funny, that sweet and charming, and so it's really no work working with him," she says. "He's also a very good artist, but right now, I'm currently beating him at Draw Something on my iPhone..."

SFX MAGAZINE: Doctor Who “Dinosaurs On A Spaceship” Writer Chris Chibnall Interviewed

by Dave Golder
September 3 2012

The title to next week’s Doctor Who says it all, really, and as returning writer Chris Chibnall reveals, the title was where it all started...

poster3A

Q: What was the origin of “Dinosaurs On A Spaceship”?

Chris Chibnall: “It just started with the title. I has a meeting with Steven Moffat, and he said, ‘I have just four words to say to you: Dinosaurs On A Spaceship.’ At which point my heart leapt internally, and I tried to look cool.

“I just went quiet for a second. My thought process was, very simply: ‘He can’t mean that. How on Earth could we ever achieve that?’ And at the same time, ‘Fantastic. That’s the best title ever!’

In reality, I just said, ‘Oh yeah, okay, great. I get that. I can see that. I’d love to do that.’ And I went away and came back with a proposal of how we’d do it...

THE INDEPENDENT: Steven Moffat: Would a middle-aged person abscond in a magic caravan?

The biggest name in television spills the beans on the new series of Doctor Who and tells Neela Debnath about his plans for Sherlock

by Neela Debnath
Friday 31 August 2012

Sitting opposite the biggest name in British television, Steven Moffat, the man responsible for Doctor Who and Sherlock, I'm filled with trepidation.

To my relief, Moffat is perfectly amicable and my nerves are allayed as he offers up a few nuggets about the forthcoming series of the show.

The Doctor is going to have a Western adventure,” he says. “We’ve been filming in Spain, which just looks amazing, and we’ve achieved some of the biggest production value ever. It’s going to include the most Daleks ever, too.

Moffat reveals that series 7 will include several one-off episodes this time compared to the epic overarching story that spanned the last series, in order to give the show a different feel.

The new series will also see the departure of the Doctor’s companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams played by Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. “He’s going to lose his Ponds in episode five and that’s going to be huge and heart-breaking,” he says, promising a memorable, if unhappy, ending...

FANBOLT: Lana Parrilla Chats 'One Upon A Time' And What's Ahead For Regina

Submitted by Emma
August 31, 2012

With Once Upon A Time Season 2 a month away, and Season 1 now out on DVD - we've been thinking a lot about where everything left off in Storybrooke last May. We had the chance to sit down with the Evil Queen, Lana Parrilla, to chat about her work on Season 1 and a few details on Season 2!

Evil Queen

... Q: The Evil Queen's story has such a varied history. Do you get to play the character the way you want to play her?

Lana Parrilla: "Early on, I spoke to [executive producers and show creators] Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis about this. They told me they were trying to do something different with the fairytale characters, which was really interesting to me. It's nice to have the history of these different renditions of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs but, as I hope we've proved during Season One, we definitely have our own take on it."

Q: Will that continue in the second season?

Lana Parrilla: "I certainly hope we will stay open to that idea. We get to learn a lot about the characters in Season One, but I'm sure there's much more to come. It's fun to see so many more sides to these famous characters than anyone has ever seen before. I think it's especially fascinating to see the conflicting vulnerability in all of these iconic villains..."

Once Upon A Time season two premieres Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 8/7C on ABC.
