TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY - DAEMON'S TV: Exclusive Interview: TORCHWOOD MIRACLE DAY’s Arlene Tur Talks About Her Character, Jack Harkness and Her Future

by Eric
Jul 7, 2011

Torchwood fans, rejoice as your favorite show is about to return tomorrow for a new season for the first time ever on Starz. If you are eager to find out what you may expect, you are in luck as Daemon’s TV had the immense pleasure to talk to the wickedly cool Arlene Tur who will play Doctor Vera Cruz on the upcoming new season of Torchwood titled “Torchwood: Miracle Day“. Arlene was kind enough to dish about some of the crazy storylines we will get, the morality of the new season and much much more. Check out the interview below and don’t forget to tune to watch the premiere of Torchwood: Miracle Day tomorrow Friday July 8th at 10 pm ET/PT..

Photobucket

... Q: So, you did get to work with John Barrowman who plays Jack Harkness. Are there any Vera/Jack moments that you can tease?

Arlene Tur: "Yes. The first time that Vera meets Jack is quite hilarious. It’s become very official in the hospital and all the government officials are coming down and we’re going to experiment with something in the morgue where there’s someone that’s been completely blown apart and he’s in pieces, but the person remains alive. So, we’re trying to figure out how this is possible. The government officials have come down where Jack joins and pretends to be a part of the FBI as he would. He’s behind me and we’re looking at this mess of a person, unfortunately, and the person is still living. The first moment of interaction that I get with Captain Jack is that he says, ‘What happens if we cut the head off? Will stay alive.’ Vera, who’s very about her patient’s best interest, is like, ‘What are you talking about? There’s absolutely no way. This is our patient.’ So that’s their first interaction and you can imagine where it goes from there..."

ALPHAS - DAEMON'S TV: Exclusive Interview: ALPHAS’ Azita Ghanizada Opens Up About Smell-a-Vision, Super Hearing and Dropping Pants

by Eric
Jul 7, 2011

Since Heroes went off the air, TV has been a serious lacking in shows portraying individuals with superhero like abilities. Thankfully, ALPHAS, the new Syfy series which premieres next Monday is coming and is ready to fill that gap.

Daemon’s TV had an opportunity to talk to the very charming and bubbly Azita Ghanizada who plays the shy and sweet Rachel Pizad who also happens to be a “synesthete” which means that she has the power to enhance one of her senses to superhuman levels. Azita had a lot to say about the show, her character, the cast and more. Check out the interview below and don’t forget to tune in Monday July 11th 10/9c to check out the premiere of Alphas...

Photobucket

... Q: This team already exists and has a dynamic. Can you talk about that?

Azita Ghanizada: "I think in the pilot you definitely get a bit of a voyeuristic thing, right, because you’re catching them already in the middle of being together. I think that’s super cool. It’s almost like you’re snapping the pictures and observing them and you’re in the room while they’re there. We’re not really being introduced in another way which is, like you said, what normally happens.

I think the group energy, the dynamic between the Alphas is what makes the show so interesting. I think to start it off right there with us going after something, starting our hunt which is what we’ll continue to do throughout the series was a real kick off to what’s going to come for the rest of the episodes. You’re going to constantly see us thrown into these dangerous situations really quickly that we’re not necessarily prepared for. You’re going to see the Alphas do their goddamned best to solve that crime, and to seek these criminal [?] as quickly as possible. In each episode you’re also going to get a little taste of who these Alphas are at home and what they struggle with. I think really with Rachel, played by me, you really get to see in the first five or six episodes her battling against breaking free from her home life. You’re going to figure out why and how she needs to get out of that situation fast and what she’s in that situation in the first place...

ALPHAS - COLLIDER: Exclusive Zak Penn Interview

by Christina Radish
July 6th

The latest original scripted series for SyFy, Alphas is an action-packed thriller from writers Zak Penn (The Avengers, X-Men: The Last Stand) and Michael Karnow, that follows the lives of five ordinary people who become an extraordinary team with the power to stretch the capabilities of the human mind due to brain anomalies that have given them enhanced mental and physical abilities.

Operating within the Defense Criminal Investigation Service of the U.S. Department of Defense, and led by pre-eminent neurologist and psychiatrist Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn), the team – which includes former FBI Agent Bill Harken (Malik Yoba), who can summon strength by activating the fight-or-flight response at will; Rachel Mizrahi (Azita Ghanizada), who can enhance one sense while rendering her remaining senses temporarily useless; Gary Bell (Ryan Cartwright), who has the ability to read a wide range of frequencies including television, radio, and cell phone signals; Nina Theroux (Laura Mennell), who can influence the specific neural pathways in the cerebral cortex that leave the brain vulnerable to suggestion; and Cameron Hicks (Warren Christie), who possesses flawless aim, perfect balance and greatly enhanced motor skills – investigates cases that point to others with Alpha abilities, while keeping their own gifts a secret.

During an exclusive interview with Collider, executive producer Zak Penn talked about how the show developed out of real research about the CIA trying to recruit people who were psychic, the time-intensive schedule of television versus film, how much he’s enjoyed getting to create a mythology from scratch, why it was important for these Alpha abilities to have consequences, and what having Ira Steven Behr as a showrunner has meant to the development of the series...

... Question: How did Alphas come about for you?

ZAK PENN: "Michael Karnow, who co-created the show with me and wrote the pilot with me, is a good friend of mine. He’s acted in the movies I’ve directed. And, he came to me with all this research about the CIA trying to recruit people who were psychic. The Men Who Stare At Goats is a version of it, that’s based on a true story. He talked about, “Wouldn’t it be interesting if some of those programs had actually worked out? What if they had figured out that people could actually do these things and learned how to use it?” I said, “Hey, that’s kind of a cool idea, actually.” And that very quickly evolved into the idea that became Alphas. It was originally titled Section 8, and we lost the rights to that title because there’s a video game with it, but that’s how it started. We started working on it and we sold it once to ABC, but then the writers’ strike came, and then we sold it again to SyFy. It all began with Michael’s idea..."

WAREHOUSE 13 - COLLIDER: Exclusive Aaron Ashmore Interview

by Christina Radish
July 6th, 2011

For the third season of the popular SyFy series Warehouse 13, young ATF agent Steve Jinks (Aaron Ashmore) is recruited by Mrs. Frederic (CCH Pounder) to be the new partner of Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock), since his last partner, Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly), left the top-secret storage facility. While intrigued by Jinks’ ability to detect when someone is lying, they cautiously accept him onto the team, as they go out to retrieve various strange artifacts, mysterious relics, fantastical objects and preternatural souvenirs for Artie, (Saul Rubinek), the Warehouse’s caretaker.

During this exclusive interview with Collider, actor Aaron Ashmore (who played Jimmy Olson on the CW series Smallville) talked about the unusual way he came to the role, his nerves about the fan reaction to him coming in as the new guy, working with this ensemble of actors, not wanting his character’s ability in real life, and how he enjoys sci-fi, comic books and video games himself...

Photobucket

... Q: Had you been familiar with the show at all, or did you catch up once you were cast?

ASHMORE: "I’d actually seen the show before and had been very aware of it because it was shooting in Toronto, and I have a lot of actor friends who were always going out for it. And, I know that it had been doing really well on SyFy. I follow that world a little bit, and I had seen a lot of stuff about it. And, Jack gave me a ton of episodes so I could watch it and catch up, and really see where they were at in the story and how the show had developed. I’d seen a few episodes, but I hadn’t seen all the seasons, so he caught me up. And then, I had to just jump in and go to it..."

WAREHOUSE 13 - MEDIA BLVD MAGAZINE: Exclusive Eddie McClintock Interview

Interview by Jamie Ruby and Charli Holbrook
Thursday, 07 July 2011

Warehouse 13 is about to enter its third season. The series, returning on Monday, July 11, starts with the team still upset after Myka Bering's (Joanne Kelly) departure. New agent Steve Jinks (Aaron Ashmore) is brought in and the team, including Myka's partner Pete Lattimer, played by Eddie McClintock, is not happy with the change.

Eddie McClintock sat down with SciFi Vision and MediaBlvd for an exclusive interview to talk about the upcoming season.

There isn't much that McClintock can reveal about what's coming up this season, but believes that the best is yet to come. "This season is going to be the best of the three. I think we all kind of share that same feeling. The scripts are more fun and they're funnier. I think that they are more exciting. I think every year the writers zero in on what the show does best. The show just grows from year to year. So I think it's normal that the shows would be better this year than last year, and the year prior to that even.

"You know the guests we have this year are some amazing guest stars. Some of the great Syfy names of the past few years. So it's going to be really exciting, and what this show is, at its core, is it's a family show, so that's pretty strongly emphasized. It's just going to be a lot of fun..."

Photobucket

... The actor was able, however, to reveal some of the great guest stars of the upcoming season. "Jerry Ryan...was amazing to work with; we had a blast. She's an old pro and she walked on the set and basically made herself at home which was great.

"..."Kate Mulgrew is on the show this year. She's fantastic and we get along great. We've had some really fun scenes together.

"...That's kind of a thing about our show, the personalities here, is that we're all pretty welcoming. There are no overly inflated egos here, so when an attractive talented girl comes on, Joanne doesn't get all territorial with her. She welcomes her and does anything to make the show better. I feel the same way with the guys that have come on the show. If they're good and they enhance the show, then I'm all for it. I'm not all territorial about the show either. I feel pretty comfortable. I think I do a good job on the show and anyone that comes on that wants to make it better, then I'm all for it..."

Season three of Warehouse13 premieres Monday, July 11, on Syfy at 9/8C.
