Conan

This month Empire stepped back in time to ancient Hyboria to meet the new Conan. Disappointingly, Marcus Nispel's Conan doesn't feature a scrawny, red-haired New York talkshow host spending two hours trying to pick up a giant sword; happily he'll be offering a freshly sharpened take on Robert E. Howard's tale of revenge, romance and 'pecs the size of Romford. Nispel has taken the epic John Milius/Arnie adventure, torn up much of the original tale, added 3D, vengeance, a hessian sack worth of effects and the muscular presence of Hawaii-born actor Jason Momoa. "Conan needs to be the kind of guy that grabs a girl's ass, and he likely gets laid that night," Nispel explains. Arnie wouldn't do that. He's the Governor of California.

Conan the Barbarian is currently scheduled for an August 19, 2011 release date to theaters.

Cast includes Ron Perlman, Rachel Nichols, Rose McGowan, Stephen Lang, Bob Sapp and Stargate Atlantis' Jason Momoa as Conan the Barbarian.

BOSTON HERALD: ‘Being Human’ werewolf Tovey enjoys shape-shifting in roles

By Amy Amatangelo
Sunday, February 27, 2011

Russell Tovey says fans should get ready for more werewolves, zombies and other mystical creatures on the third season of “Being Human.”

The 29-year-old plays the werewolf George on the hit BBC America series. “Season three was awesome” to film, Tovey told the Herald during a recent telephone interview from London. “The sound bite is, the first season, the danger was supernatural, the second, the threat was human, and the third one, the threat was from within.”

... Although he’s seen clips of the U.S. series, he hasn’t watched an episode. “I would want at some point to sit down and watch it properly. It just feels very strange.”

He’s become acquainted via Twitter with Sam Huntington, who plays the werewolf on the American version. “We tweet each other now, and all the fans love that,” he said. “He says, ‘I’m really honored to be playing a character that you started off playing.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m really honored that you’re honored.’ So we’re both honored. It’s a big werewolf love-in.”

Being Human3 airs Saturday 9/8C on BBC America.

WHAT'S ON TV: Simon Baker on life as TV's smartest sleuth

Feb 28, 2011

As the third series of The Mentalist returns to Channel 5 this week, TV&Satellite Week magazine caught up with the show's star to find out more...

Photobucket

... Q: Your character, Patrick Jane, is one of the more unusual sleuths to grace the small screen, isn't he?

Simon Baker: "In most American shows of this kind, the lead characters are very black-and-white. They're either wacky and zany or deadly earnest. But Jane vacillates somewhere in between, and he's more of an eccentric. Jane is a complex bag of tricks. You could easily mistake him for a bit of a simpleton, but there's a lot more to him than meets the eye. He's essentially a very dark character who has a good sense of humour. It's far more interesting because there are more areas you can go to in every scene..."

The Mentalist returns on Friday March 4 at 9pm on Channel 5 (in the UK), and airs in the US on Thursday at 10/9C on CBS.
