FALLING SKIES - TNT VIDEO: "Resist" Promo

Watch the Falling Skies on-air spot "Resist," then tune in this June for the premiere of the new series.

Falling Skies opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.

At the center of the series is Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), a Boston history professor whose family has been torn apart. His wife was killed in the initial attack, and one of his three sons has been captured. Determined to get his son back and to ensure the safety of his other two sons, Tom must put his extensive knowledge of military history to the test as one of the leaders of the resistance movement known as the 2nd Mass, because of their location in Boston, Mass. They are constantly trying to gain intelligence about the aliens in order to one day outsmart and overtake them and hopefully rebuild their lives.

Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) co-stars as Anne Glass, a pediatrician who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic upheaval in their lives. Will Patton (Armageddon, TNT's Into the West) plays a fierce leader of the resistance, Weaver. The series also stars Drew Roy (Secretariat) as Hal, Tom's oldest son and a growing fighter in the resistance movement; Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom's youngest son; Connor Jessup (The Saddle Club) as Ben, Tom's son who was captured by aliens; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps Anne in the group's makeshift medical clinic. Colin Cunningham (Living in Your Car) is John Pope, the leader of an outlaw motorcycle gang and Sarah Carter (Shark) is Margaret, a wary survivor of Pope's gang.

FALLING SKIES focuses on the resilience of the survivors and their determination to maintain their humanity when all else has been destroyed. It is a tale of endurance, commitment and courage in which everyday people are called upon to become heroes. They may be outmatched, outnumbered and outgunned, but nothing can beat the human spirit. Most of all, the series is about the ties that bind people together in the most difficult of circumstances.

The aliens in the series are mighty, mysterious and merciless. They are highly intelligent and use military-like tactics, which makes them an overwhelming force against the 2nd Mass. There are two types of aliens that the human survivors have named Skitters and Mechs. Combining live action and special visual effects, the Skitters have spider-like bodies and incredible strength and agility. The deadly, robotic Mechs stand upright and can shoot bullets from their arms. The aliens control captured children, like Tom's son Ben, through bio-mechanical harnesses but have yet to reveal their ultimate plan for them.

FALLING SKIES is executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, along with DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, Graham Yost (Justified, The Pacific) and screenwriter Robert Rodat. Rodat, who earned an Oscar® nomination for his screenplay for Saving Private Ryan, wrote the pilot from an idea he co-conceived with Spielberg. Mark Verheiden (Heroes, Battlestar Galactica) and Greg Beeman (Heroes, Smallville) are co-executive producers. The pilot was directed by Carl Franklin (One False Move, Out of Time).

WHAT'S ON TV: Ashley Walters reveals his Outcasts secrets

Ashley Walters talks exclusively to whatsontv.co.uk about his energetic role as Carpathia's all-action expeditionary Jack Holt...

... Was there a lot of physical acting for you on Outcasts?

Ashley Walters: "Yeah definitely. I knew it would be like that because I'm just in tank tops and vests all the time. I had to do plenty of work-outs to make sure my arms and stomach were ok to view! It's all reinforcing my image as a sex symbol of course! I had lots of fight sequences and spent a day tied to a tree, which was uncomfortable to say the least. I do like playing Jack, though. He's the one who creates excitement, with all that running, jumping about and shooting."

The next episode of Outcasts can be seen on Sunday February 27 at 10.25pm on BBC1.

MEDIA BLVD. MAGAZINE: Sam Witwer At the Top of His Game in 'Being Human'

Monday, 21 February 2011
By Kenn Gold

Sam Witwer has a long history of playing characters very relevant to MediaBlvd’s core audience, ranging from Crashdown on Battlestar Galactica to Doomsday on Smallville with a lot of great parts in between. Now he has a lead role in the Syfy version of the popular BBC series, Being Human, as 200 year old vampire, Aidan. The series takes on a lot of the same elements as the UK version so far, but it’s fair to say that the US cast and crew is making it their own. With such a strong ensemble among the lead three cast members, it is honestly hard to pick a favorite. But Witwer is finally where he well deserves to be- in the top of the cast of the best show that Syfy has done since BSG, and the first retelling of a British hit on US TV that has so clearly surpassed the original in a very long time..

Sam recently answered some burning questions from an assembled panel of the online media about how he takes on the character, about his cast mates, and about the show in general. Being Human airs on Monday nights on Syfy...

Photobucket

... Question> Addiction seems to be a big part of the story line, and Aidan is experiencing things for the first time because he is clean. Is he just going to be a failed character? Is his going to be a failed redemption story?

Sam Witwer> That is a very, very interesting question. First of all, you’re hitting the nail on the head when it comes to how new things are to him, because I’m trying to play him and you’ll see a lot more of this as the season goes on, I’m trying to play him like this is all ridiculously new to him. That this is going clean with something that has occurred to him in the past and he’s tried on a few occasions, but this is the first time that he’s really made a go of it and had any real success. And because he’s been a drug case for 200 years he doesn’t have the tools that you and I have to deal with humanity on humanities own terms. So, he’s been relying on the substance abuse to get him through. So now we have what is in very strange ways - I mean on one hand he’s a very wise old character who’s accrued a lot of wisdom, and on the other hand he’s a kid who has not developed - he’s not developed normally. And his emotional state is extremely volatile and he tries - and which is why he tries to keep cool so much. He tries to maintain this very low key veneer to try to contain all the stuff that’s going on inside, and you’ll get to see more and more of that as the season goes on, in terms of backsliding and is he destined to fail? In terms of ultimately is he destined to fail? That is a question that we will answer by the end of the entire series. But in terms of the season, yes, we do see some failures and we do see some moments where, yes, he starts backsliding and it’s some pretty ugly stuff. In fact, there’s one scene in particular, and I wish I could tell you about it because I’m very excited about it...

STARRY CONSTELLATION MAGAZINE: Azita Ghanizada Interview

... Q. What can you tell us about the premise for "Alphas" and about your character?

A. "Alphas" was created by Zak Penn and Michael Karnow and they kind of wanted to write something that was a little "The X-Files" meets Xmen in a sense that it's not your normal show about superheroes , although everybody has superhero abilities. They are very much ordinary individuals with incredible abilities. They kind of all come under this really amazing doctor, Dr. Rosen, who is played by the tremendously talented David Strathairn. He oversees a group of four our five Alphas that all have these different abilities and we solve crimes for different government agencies with these type of "X-Files" crimes that really nobody else could solve and we use our super abilities. My character actually has the ability to hyper intensify all of her senses so she can super see, hear, smell, touch, and taste. She uses those to benefit solving these crimes and she's a little awkward because of it. She kind of goes into these little trances when she has to call upon one of her sense because she can delineate each one. She kind of goes into these little trances and it was a little scarring as a child to kind of go into these trances, I don't think she really knew how to control it when she was younger. She could hear what everybody always said about her so she's a little awkward and a little sweet and she's trying her best to break out of her shell and become an adult and use these powers for the good of mankind...

SCIFI AND TV TALK: Sanctuary Writers' Room - Alan McCullough

by Steve Eramo

In Sanctuary’s second season finale Kali, Part II, our heroes appeared to be up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Dr. Helen Magnus’ leadership of the Sanctuary network was challenged when it was revealed that she allowed the most powerful Abnormal on Earth, nicknamed Big Bertha, to remain alive. A clever entrepreneur, Edward Forsythe, had his own plans for the creature, but after one of Magnus’s colleagues, Terrence Wexford, launched an attack on Big Bertha, the Abnormal created a tsunami that threatened to destroy the coast of Mumbai. When the series returned for its third year, it was up to series co-executive producer/writer Alan McCullough to figure out how to save the day when he penned the season opener, Kali, Part III...

Photobucket

... Having written the season three opener, McCullough was thrilled with the opportunity to bookend his contribution to Sanctuary‘s third year by penning the season finale, Into the Black. “This was another episode where we had to end the year strong but we didn’t have a lot of money,” he says. “We’d spent a fair bit on Normandy and Carentan, both big stories, which will be apparent when you see them. I mean, we built a French street for Normandy on the backlot of our studio just like we did with Mumbai, and it cost a fair bit.

“So when it came time for the finale we needed a strong episode that was going pay off events from the mid-season two-parter. This story is sort of Sanctuary’s take on [the movie] District 9, where we have to contain a group of Abnormals, and Magnus finds herself in a jurisdictional battle with the UN and this private security firm a la Blackwater that wants to seize control of the Abnormals and take over the project from the Sanctuary.

“Once again, there are some great performances in this episode, including some fantastic scenes between Druitt and Magnus, and we also learn that a character we thought was dead is, in fact, alive. The last thing I’ll tell you is that the finale’s cliffhanger is one of the greatest that I’ve been involved with in my career as a Sci-Fi writer,” enthuses McCullough. “I had originally written a much more expensive script that, again, we just didn’t have the money to produce, but Martin Wood came up with some extremely smart producing adjustments that really helped out and enabled us to make this episode.”

Sanctuary returns to Syfy with NEW episodes on April 15, 2011
