JUSTIFIED - TV GUIDE: Right on Target

Feb 16, 2011
by Margy Rochlin

On Justified, when two hillbilly thugs walk into a room with an ominous-looking bag, you know they're not toting the makings of a picnic. Anything might be inside: explosives, guns, a bear trap. For Timothy Olyphant, who stars on FX's crime drama as the low-key but deadly deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens and is now a producer, the secret to the show's rich yet unhurried storytelling is how it triggers the imagination.

"I keep thinking about all the things that could be in the bag," says Olyphant to staff writer Dave Andron as they sit on location in South Pasadena, California, outside of a police museum that's doubling today as a jailhouse in rural eastern Kentucky. "Now the thing that tickles me most is live animals," says Olyphant, who is dressed in full Raylan gear: nicely cut suit, collared shirt, tie, cowboy boots and, of course, his Stetson. "How about a...badger?" Olyphant collapses in a fit of giggles. "Badgers!" he drawls, riffing on The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. "We don't need no stinking badgers!"

TV DRAMA WATCH: Fairly Legal: Interview with Michael Trucco

by Lynn DeVries on February 14, 2011

One of the stars of USA network’s new series, Fairly Legal is Michael Trucco. He’s not only handsome and charming, but he’s fun to talk to as well. On Thursday, he agreed to answer questions from many of us about his character on the show, how he originally got into acting and what may be ahead for his character on the show. This is the transcript of that conversation. Unfortunately, the phone line occasionally cut out, so there are some gaps in things in a couple of places.

Be sure to watch this week’s episode of Fairly Legal when it airs on Thursday at 10/9c on USA..

Photobucket

... Q: What challenges you about playing this character?

M. Trucco: That’s a good question. I think striking a balance between the character of Justin Patrick and Kate Reed is the challenge. We’ve sort of explored the unconventional side of the male character in Justin and in terms of this relationship between Kate and Justin, we’re in the midst of a divorce when we pick up the series, as you know. They still have a relationship that would be considered friends with benefits, so there is definitely an aspect—these two end up in bed together several times and oftentimes, for the male, in a relationship, that arrangement seems to be okay. If it aint broke, don’t fix it.

I think what’s challenging here is that the writers of the show have given Justin the sort of moral perspective. He’s not copacetic with this relationship. He doesn’t like the way things stand. He wants some sort of resolve. I find that a unique perspective and one that is challenging in this character...

DIGITAL SPY: Q&A: A chat with 'CSI' star George Eads

Tuesday, February 15 2011
By Morgan Jeffery

With the 11th season of CSI currently airing in the US and the show's 10th run just out on DVD in the UK, we decided to catch up with series star George Eads (the impossibly square-jawed Nick Stokes) to chat about the CBS drama's past, present and future, and his character's recent emotional trauma. We also got the inside scoop on this Thursday's episode, which sees pop idol Justin Bieber make his second appearance as troublesome teen Jason McCann...

Photobucket

... How has it been working with Justin Bieber this season?

George Eads: "It's been great. He's got his film coming out [Never Say Never] I think in March, but when I originally worked with him, I didn't realize what a child prodigy he is! When we were shooting that first episode, I didn't think of him as a musician, I just thought of him as an actor. He was great to work with and just a really sweet, down-to-earth kid."

What can you tell us about Justin's return to the show in Thursday's episode?

George Eads: "Well, he's cast as this troubled teen, which is ironic, because it's kind of the opposite of what everybody knows him as. But he's back, causing trouble, and we have a face-off. Unfortunately for him, I'm the series regular!"

Being Human - The Deadbolt: Sam Witwer Interview

THE DEADBOLT: Vampire Style with Sam Witwer of Being Human

by Troy Rogers

Now that Being Human is in full supernatural swing on Syfy, fans have been introduced to Sam Witwer as Aidan, a vampire from the Revolutionary War who works as a nurse at a Boston hospital. Although Aidan struggles to find his place in the real world as a vampire, life is even more complex for the character of Sam Witwer who shares a house with a werewolf named Josh (Sam Huntington) and a ghost (Meaghan Rath) named Sally.

After Aidan got involved in a co-dependent relationship with a girl aiming to reject the vampire lifestyle in the Being Human episode, "Wouldn't It Be Nice (If We Were Human)," Sam Witwer's character is called to help with a homeless man in triage in the February 14 episode called "The End of The World As We Know It" in which Aidan learns the identity of the person who turned him into a vampire.

[Being Human] Ahead of the Valentine's Day episode of Being Human, TheDeadbolt spoke with actor Sam Witwer about how Aidan fits in with other vampire characters, the origins of his American name as compared to the British TV series, and how Witwer's character is able to survive in daylight in relation to bloodsuckers of the past who were more nocturnal in nature...

Photobucket

... THE DEADBOLT: How do you feel Aidan stacks up against the other vampires on TV and in film right now?

SAM WITWER: Oh, you’re going to be very disappointed in me, sir. I have not seen the other vampires. I don’t know what they’re doing. I haven’t seen any of the shows. I haven’t seen the Twilight series. In fact, someone said, “Hey, do you guys sparkle?” And I’m like, “What? What do you mean? Do we break into dance numbers and do jazz hands?” They’re like, “No, like the vampires in Twilight.” And I’m like, “I don’t k now what that is...”
